HEALTH, NUTRITION AND POPULATION

Link-Up Project-SRHR-HIV/AIDS
ACLAB has been implementing the link-up project supported by Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through HASAB. The aim is to improve sexual and reproductive health of young people in Bangladesh affected by HIV/AIDS. Link-UP is implemented in a consortium approach under the leadership of Health and Social Action Bureau (HASAB) with Marie Stopes Bangladesh and Population Council as implementing partners. The program covers 11 districts of Chittagong division. 30,000 vulnerable young people –Man who have sex with a Man (MSM) are total target beneficiaries. Main activities of the project are to prepare mother list of MSM, life skill education on SRHR, HIV, and Family Planning, group discussion, organize workshop & seminar, condom promotion, referral heath service on SRHR, HIV/ AIDS and Family planning.

Malaria Control Program
ACLAB has been implementing Malaria Control Program in Chakaria and Pekua upazilas of Cox’s Bazar district since July 2007 with financial and technical assistance from BRAC and GFATM through the Ministry of Health and Family Planning. The total population of the project areas is 5, 56,324 and 1, 11,256 households are there. Major activities of the program - LLINs distribution, treatment of bed nets, testing and treatment of malaria, conduct advocacy workshop, holding BCC sessions, organize popular theatre and folk songs are being implementing through mass campaigning, conducting workshop, meeting & session, laboratory and referral services. Those activities are being implemented through ensuring cooperation, coordination and participation of community people, local administration, local government, journalists, local NGOs/CBOs and community leaders. Regular monitoring and supervision are done for providing quality services. Experienced and committed health workers, program organizers, warehouse staffs, laboratory technicians, monitoring officer, program manager, other support staffs and senior management of ACLAB are implementing the project activities smoothly. In Malaria control program, advocacy and capacity building are most important to achieve the goal and objectives of the project. Because, these two activities play significant role in mobilizing, awareness raising, and capacitate the target group, community people and different stakeholders which ultimately lead the project a success. Advocacy activities were carried out at local, regional and national level which helps a lot to smooth implementation as well as achieving the goal and objectives of the project.

Scaling Up Nutrition
ACLAB has been implementing Scaling Up Nutrition program in Chittagong division with funded by CSA for SUN, Bangladesh. The objective of the program are to promote 1,000 days approach (called Window of Opportunity) among stakeholders, to sensitize stakeholders on Scaling up Nutrition; to assess the role of stakeholders in their society regarding 1,000 days approach; to assess the intervention plan on nutrition for Mother and children. The target beneficiaries are parents, children & adolescents, religious leader, local government, administration, Journalist, NGOs & CBOs representatives, health professionals and others stakeholders. Some following activities are:
• Organized workshop with different stakeholders
• Organized community level activities like drama, folk song on nutrition
• Community level meeting on nutrition with microcredit women beneficiaries
• Art and quiz competitions on nutrition
• Sensitization meeting with mothers
• IEC/BCC materials develop and dissemination


Promotion of Safe Water & Sanitation and Arsenic Mitigation
ACLAB has been implementing Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) and Arsenic Mitigation in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district and Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. The program is supported by Bangladesh NGO Foundation. The activities include – Awareness Raising Campaign, Group Meeting, Community Orientation, Advocacy, Health Education, Rally, and IEC Materials Distribution. The focused issues are - Sanitation and Hygiene, Safe Drinking Water, Arsenic Mitigation and Conservation of Water Resources and Environment.
